JKKN stands for Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (the National Department for Culture and Arts), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia responsible for carrying out arts and cultural activities in Malaysia.

JKKN is a government department responsible for:

• Carrying out research and development, documentation and publication, cultural arts guidance, cultural arts product development, cultural arts outreach, cultural arts strengthening, production and artistic development, and cultural arts promotion programmes.
• Providing a platform for arts practitioners to generate income through cultural arts activities.
• Building collaborative networks with cultural arts industry players, government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and cultural arts practitioners from within and outside the country.
• Disseminating cultural arts information to the public at home and abroad.
• Strengthening suitable arts and cultural activities as attractions for domestic and international tourists.
• Enhancing the effectiveness of JKKN's role through the 14 state JKKN offices.

JKKN offices operate Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (except public holidays).

The Senam Seni CD may be ordered or purchased directly from JKKN Headquarters or at the Cultural Arts Resource Centre on Level 30, Lot 1001, Menara TH Perdana, Kuala Lumpur. You may also contact your state JKKN office to obtain JKKN publications.

Books and CDs produced by JKKN may be ordered or purchased directly from JKKN Headquarters, either from the Cultural Arts Resource Centre or the Documentation and Publication Branch on Level 30, Lot 1001, Menara TH Perdana, Kuala Lumpur.

You may also contact your state JKKN office to obtain JKKN publications.

Those interested in becoming a National Cultural Arts Instructor (JSBN) may go directly to any state JKKN office to register.

Applications are made through the state JKKN office where the candidate resides.

The following fields are offered:

Dance, Theatre, Music, Gasing (top spinning), Silat and the Art of Language.

Candidates are recognised as JSBN after completing the JSBN course organised by JKKN Headquarters and passing the instructor assessment examination in their respective fields.

Learning modules are provided by field. Three (3) types of module are available:

• Modules by level I, II, III and IV
• Seni Cemerlang modules, Years 1 and 2
• Cultural Arts Guidance Centre modules (2 months, 4 months and 6 months)

Candidates may check their results on the JKKN website. Candidates are advised to visit the JKKN website regularly for the latest information.

SKM-PPT is recognition given to cultural arts industry practitioners for the expertise and skills they hold, based on their experience and past work, through the award of the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) by the Department of Skills Development (JPK), Ministry of Human Resources.

Applications may be made through www.myspike.my following the attached SKM-PPT application procedure.

For cultural arts entrepreneurs, PUSM provides guidance to entrepreneurs registered under the association to grow their businesses and strengthen their business mindset and knowledge through the association's marketing network.

Information and activities of the Apprenticeship Programme are available on the Perantisan Seni Budaya Facebook fan page.

Yes. You may send an invitation by e-mail to [email protected]. An honorarium applies and payment may be made directly to the selected apprenticeship group.

The applicant must have a recurring programme plan covering at least three (3) consecutive years. For example: Workshop/Research Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3.

The Financial Incentive is capped at RM15,000.00 for each phase of the activity.

Cultural arts NGOs whose association registration is still valid on the date of application.

• Venue incentive (Insentif Seni Ruang)
• Expertise incentive (Insentif Seni Kepakaran)
• Promotion incentive (Insentif Seni Promosi)

• Download the Incentive Form from the official JKKN website.
• The completed form must be submitted to the state JKKN office nearest the applicant for the State Director's comments, after which the state office forwards the application to JKKN Headquarters.

JKKN does not issue any certificate to NGOs registered with JKKN.

Your group must register with the Registry of Societies Malaysia (JPPM) to obtain a valid association certificate before carrying out cultural arts activities.

NGOs must first register their association with the Registry of Societies Malaysia (JPPM/ROS) before applying for financial assistance from JKKN.

Individual arts practitioners with at least five (5) years' experience in their chosen art form.

An application may be made through JKKN to the Arts Practitioners' Welfare Fund (TKPS) under the Culture and Arts Practitioners' Welfare Trust Fund Committee (JKWAKKPS), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Public and private sector employees, non-governmental organisations, upper secondary students (Form 6), students of public and private higher education institutions, and members of the public of all backgrounds.

Volunteers take part in cultural arts programmes and help build a spirit of culture volunteerism that invigorates the development of arts and cultural activities.

• Cultural Volunteers receive a Certificate of Appreciation for taking part in the programme.
• Food and drink are provided throughout the programme.

• Volunteers are assigned tasks according to the venue or programme being run, or according to their own expertise.
• A cultural volunteer's role is not confined to one field but is broader in scope. Cultural volunteers are expected to be multitaskers: for example, they are not limited to backstage work but may also serve as frontliners for departmental programmes and activities.

Yes. Some JKKN facilities and spaces can be booked by the public for cultural arts activities, subject to terms and availability. Contact your nearest JKKN office for bookings.
